Sea tragedy

MV Princess of the Stars, a passenger ship carrying 800 plus people capsized in Sibuyan Island, Romblon, Saturday, while typhoon Frank passes through the Visayas.
Reports said the ship left Manila Port last Friday at 8:00 in the evening.

Free at last

Finally, after nine days in captivity ABS-CBN news anchor Ces Drilon, her cameraman Jimmy Encarnacion and Mindanao State University Professor Octavio Dinampo was freed by their abductors late night Tuesday.
Drilon thanked Sen. Loren Legarda and many others who remained anonymous in exerting effort for their immediate release.
"Loren was a lifeline to us, so I really thank Loren," Drilon said in a television interview.
On the other hand, authorities are interrogating Indanan, Sulu Mayor Alvarez Isnaji his son Jun Isnaji and Prof Dinampo but Philippine National Police Chief Avelino Razon, Jr., explained that they are not treated as suspects in the abduction of Drilon and Encarnacion.

Ultimatum!

The Abu Sayyaf Group reportedly ask for P15 million ransom for the release of ABS-CBN news anchor Ces Orena-Drilon, her cameraman Jimmy Encarnacion and Professor Octavio Dinampo.
According to Indanan Mayor Alvarez Isnaji, the bandits want the money until 12 noon tomorrow or they will impose new policy for the hostages release.
On the other hand, families of Drilon and Encarnacion rebutted the news that they are have direct communications with the abductors and insisted that they only rely on Isnaji's report about their loved ones condition.

What you gonna call?

Pluto, the former 9th planet in our solar system has a new name - Plutoid, after it was demoted and considered as a dwarf planet.

According to reports, the International Astronomical Union executive committee decided on it after a meeting in Oslo Norway.

Plutoids will be defined as celestial bodies in orbit around the Sun farther away than Neptune.

But it’s not only Pluto that falls under this category. Eris is also called a Plutoid.

Daboy dies of cancer

The showbiz industry is mourning for the death of action star Rudy "Daboy" Fernandez.
Daboy, 56, passed away this morning in his home in White Plains, Quezon City due to a rare type of cancer - peri-ampullary cancer.
He left two sons to actress Lorna Tolentino and his only son to his former wife Ms. Alma Moreno, Mark Anthony Fernandez, who's currently active in show business.

Finally, President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo signed into law the Universally, Accessible, Cheaper and Quality Medicine Act of 2008 while she was in Laguna Provincial Hospital in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
I hope this law will truly help bring down the cost of medicines in the country.
